Touted as the Beyoncé of India, Priyanka Chopra wed American superstar Nick Jonas in the presence of their loved ones at the royal Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, India. The much anticipated wedding of the year saw Nick and Priyanka exchanging vows in a Christian ceremony as well as a traditional Hindu wedding.
The guest list include a total of 225 attendees including Game Of Thrones star Sophie Turner, the Jonas Brothers and the multi-billionaire Ambani family.
The wedding revelries begun with several pre-wedding rituals including a traditional Mehendi event, wherein the bride gets intricate henna designs tattooed on her hands. To honour her love for Nick, she chose to get a guitar as well as his name imprinted as a symbol of their togetherness.
There was a fierce battle of the sexes theme incorporated at the friendly pre-wedding cricket match organized where Team Bride vs. Team Groom competed with great vigour. The competitive spirit continued on at the ostentatious Sangeet ceremony, a musical night filled with mesmerizing song and dance performances.
For their western wedding ceremony, the couple’s bridal attire was customised by renowned fashion extraordinaire Ralph Lauren. Priyanka was seen in a bespoke regal white column dress embellished with pearlescent sequins, overlaid with a hand embroidered translucent high-neck coat, complete with a jaw-dropping 75-foot long veil. The elaborate embroidery included eight significant phrases that were selected by the bride to be sewn onto her magical wedding outfit. Some of the words integrated were; family, hope and compassion. Whereas, the groom wore a suit by the same label with a piece of his beautiful, blushing bride’s dress sewn onto the interior lapel of his jacket with the words ‘my jaan’ (meaning ‘my life’) inscribed in Urdu just above his heart.
A tremendous 18 feet wedding cake was constructed for their classic Christian ceremony, adding to the glitz and glamour of the majestic festivities.
A match made in heaven, Nick and Priyanka tied the knot for the second time according to Hindu customs. The dreamy, fairy tale wedding saw Priyanka in a custom-made resplendent red Sabyasachi lehenga with Nick complimenting her in a hand-quilted silk ensemble. As an ode to the Moghul era, the stunning bride was decked with dazzling uncut diamonds, emeralds and Japanese cultured pearls in 22 karat gold.
After an extravagant five-day affair, the globally acclaimed couple hosted a lavish reception at the Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi. The stars aligned themselves for this incredibly special occasion which was attended by various VIP dignitaries, close friends and family.
Confirming their glorious cultural wedding and sharing memories from their numerous celebrations on Instagram, Nick and Priyanka stated; “One of the most special things that our relationship has given us is a merging of families who love and respect each other’s faiths and cultures. And planning our wedding with an amalgamation of both was so, so amazing”.
Here’s wishing #NickYanka a lifetime of love and happiness!
